I have decided to abandon my blog for a while.

I started an Open University degree last month, in Primary Teaching and Learning, which will take at least 6 years to complete. I volunteer at school 2 days to fulfill the work experience criteria for the course, and of course, I have that thing called a 'family' to look after as well.

I am struggling to find the the time to write my essays, let alone blog posts, so I will leave this record and may post intermittently should I be moved to do so.

Meantime, I leave you with this video as food for thought, and thank all who have visited, commented or contacted me through the blog.

We're just doing long weekends during the school summer holidays - Friday to Monday, which is just right for full-on family activities! We've even enjoyed some olympics related activities, we tried some sporty things at the Sports Arena down on the beach at Weymouth - Kayaking was the big hit with all the family, so much so that we are now considering whether to buy our own.
In other news, it's very nearly my Extremely Big birthday (40), and I have requested a ukelele as one of my gifts. I hope to achieve great things (!) but as I haven't practised or played on any musical instrument since the arrival of Things 1 and 2, I expect my ambition to exceed my ability by quite a lot.
In the interest of research, this morning I clicked through from the lovely Wikipedia, to this handy site where I found an AMAZING video of The Waffle Stompers, covering Gotye's most recent hit 'Somebody I Used To Know'. Please watch their video, the kids and I enjoyed it so much, I believe I'm going to be watching it all day now!

buntinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04846587428976491331noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8765814501529284824.post-87520376125267708512012-07-16T13:22:00.001+01:002012-07-16T13:28:49.201+01:00Wild Play at the beach

On one of the very infrequent sunny-ish days recently we went to the beach at Burton Bradstock for some fresh air, and ended up making some major stoneworks.

Move over, you druids. The fact that our Stonehenge was only about 3 feet in diameter is irrelevant!

I have now finished the second glass panel for Mum and Dad's door. Ta-da! What a relief, they match enough. I am very, very pleased with these pieces, and now all that is to be done is the double glazing enclosure. And, of course, Dad has to make the door to put them in! Much swearing has assisted me in the construction stage, especially when cutting long, thin, flower stalks in ancient green glass. But that's all in the past now, so I will happily go back to making small glass birds for the meanwhile. Enjoy July, pack your waders!
And my sandals, instead of woolly socks and boots.
And maybe, just maybe, could it be dry for more than an hour at a time?
I'm so utterly fed up with being wet every time I venture outside; having laundry hanging around INSIDE the house; wet kids; wet cats; wet chickens; wet floors (grrrrr!) and not being able to go to my beach hut in June because IT IS NOT SUMMER.
Anything you can do to improve this situation would be welcomed.
Thank you very much,
Bunting x

buntinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04846587428976491331noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8765814501529284824.post-60189023125305927122012-05-29T13:11:00.001+01:002012-05-29T13:11:10.629+01:00Sweet pea bed no. 1 in!

Sweet pea bed no. 1 in!, a photo by rowsew on Flickr.

Progress at the allotment.

buntinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04846587428976491331noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8765814501529284824.post-48366621134432177122012-05-17T17:19:00.001+01:002012-05-17T17:19:45.289+01:00New Hens

New Hens, a photo by rowsew on Flickr.

After the fox does his worst, new girls move in.

buntinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04846587428976491331noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8765814501529284824.post-40419498517272877262012-04-30T22:26:00.002+01:002012-04-30T22:26:48.648+01:00RantAaaaaargh. Well, I just Do Not Like Blogger at the moment. As you can see, there have been some 'template design' changes here, but it's still a work in progress. I cannot make the flippin' thing do what I really want, and all the stuff has changed..... really, who thinks this is an improvement?

I am trying to post more frequently but the technology seems to be against me just now, so I deeply apologise if this page looks pants today. Hopefully some thinking (and quiet beating of the computer) will sort things out over the next few days.

On another matter, have you all got your snorkels? If we get any more rain, I'll be able to boat UPHILL to school. Good thing the foot of doom is still out of order, as I'm not doing the school run at present!

Keep dry, see you soon.

buntinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04846587428976491331noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8765814501529284824.post-31231985540939107242012-04-24T19:52:00.001+01:002012-04-30T22:27:17.052+01:00Beside the Seaside, Beside the Sea

I found this lovely book at the library, and thought to share it with you. I am very lucky to have returned to live CLOSE to the sea, after an 18 year hiatus in a significantly non-coastal location near London. I find the sea both calming, and invigorating. I love the fresh air, the constantly changing weather and the light which is so different here. And so, all things coastal catch my attention. This book is beautifully photographed, with minimal captions, and a real feast for the eyes as well as the imagination.

Via Flickr:
By the sea

buntinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04846587428976491331noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8765814501529284824.post-85632317192599627772012-02-21T13:40:00.001+00:002012-02-21T13:40:44.517+00:00Sausages

Homemade Sausages!, a photo by rowsew on Flickr.

To make up for last year, (when Teflon Boy had his doomed 40th), the kids and I bought him a sausage making machine for his birthday.

Actually, looking back through my pictures I can see that I haven't been keeping very up to date with the girls. They now have a much smarter, bigger house with the luxury of 3 nest boxes (you would not believe the fighting that goes on when there's only two, I found three chickens sitting on top of one another in one a few days before the new house got installed!), and I am quite pleased that the Very Few Eggs Drought has finished and we are now getting at least 3 eggs on most days.

The days are getting longer, I know this because my chickens tell me so with their lovely eggs!

Have a nice Wednesday folks.

buntinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04846587428976491331noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8765814501529284824.post-26996373242429577562012-01-30T12:01:00.001+00:002012-01-30T12:01:08.870+00:00Stained glass update

Stained glass panel #1 finished!, a photo by rowsew on Flickr.

Well, after very nearly a year, the First Panel for Mum and Dad's new front door is finally finished! I wanted to let you see what books I reference for patterns or inspiration, and using a link to Amazon seemed to be the easiest way to do it.

I do have a lot of crafting books, as well as reading books (and now a pile of Kindle books too!), so I will add to the list as time allows.

Of course, many of the books I link to come from our library, so please remember to check yours out! I have found it very helpful to be able to see what you're getting before deciding to actually buy, as some books are very disappointing in content.

buntinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04846587428976491331noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8765814501529284824.post-39390487729786631332012-01-26T12:53:00.001+00:002012-01-26T12:53:20.583+00:00Honey and Lemon

Honey and Lemon, a photo by rowsew on Flickr.

I was going to post this yesterday, but felt so under the weather with my latest cold that I Just Couldn't be Bothered. I'm sat here, with my two young children, watching a film (a rare event in this house!); one knitting, and one weaving on a home-made cardboard box loom. Truly, it warms my heart. The rule in our home when I was small back in the mid-seventies, was that any (also rare) TV watching was to be accompanied by similar 'activity for hands'. It seems some traditions do carry on.

Here's hoping that 2012 will bring happy moments, peace and health to all.

buntinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04846587428976491331noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8765814501529284824.post-20982806329861787902011-12-22T20:11:00.001+00:002011-12-22T20:11:32.111+00:00And miles of stitches yet to do!

And miles of stitches yet to do!, a photo by rowsew on Flickr.

I know my brother doesn't read here, so it's safe to post that I still haven't finished quilting or binding this quilt. And I wish you Happy December 1st. As you can imagine, my children were tremendously excited to get up this morning to put the very first Advent star into their Nativity calendar, (and then the snowman marker into No. 1 on their fabric calendar...... and drool over the possibility of a little chocolate from their other one - but not till after school)!

We like to start December very gently, as the youngest child has only just had her birthday. I think it's right to have a little space between birthday celebrations and Christmas excitement.

So, the wreath has been put up on the door, the calendars were found, and yesterday, we made these gorgeous stars from old music books.

With thanks to Maya for her post, and AnneKata for the tutorial. I'm off to make some small stars now for a garland. I found some very ancient wool, and this pattern from one of my favourite blog sites, and voila! half a glove already done. I'm off to make a yummy grilled sandwich for my lunch now. Made the soap yesterday, so today had the excitement of demoulding (which is always trying as I forget to grease the moulds first) and then slicing. Almost the best bit because you get to see what the texture is like when you slice it open. Now there's lots of waiting. Almost six weeks. And then it will be properly cured and ready to use. If you want to have a go at making your own soap, I recommend that you read this post from Rhonda at Down-To-Earth. But please be aware that kids, pets and people with breathing difficulties should be banished whilst you are making soap, as lye (caustic soda) gives off dangerous fumes and if spilled will cause burns. You do need to c be very careful and concentrate on what you are doing. Of course, further reading is always helpful, so check out your local library for any books they might have.

buntinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04846587428976491331noreply@blogger.com2
